Setting start/finish line to format laps

Postby Scott Crawford on Thu Sep 29, 2022 2:10 am

What I am trying to do is have laps formatted correctly from start/finish line after downloading when opening them in i2 without having to input the start/finish lat-long GPS every session every motorcycle. I am using an M130 with firmware very similar to 2009 Yamaha R1, and an AIM Solo DL-2 importing gps over the can bus.

We are flat track oval racing and there is no crossover that can confuse the beacon with overlap.

After downloading data I have been formatting laps from the cursor, generating the track, finding start finish on track, then resetting the laps manually by restoring the laps and inputting the GPS I worked out for start finish. Then I generate the track again and start/finish is correct. Every following session I generate laps using the same coordinates I noted from the first session.

I tried putting the start/finish GPS coordinates in the package under Lap>GPS>Beacon 1. When I generate laps in i2 it still sets the start/finish somewhere else, I assume where the cursor is.

Does it have something to do with "'current data source" vs "selected data source" under "generate laps using GPS data?

None of the tracks we use are in the "from venue" database.

Another question, in i2 standard or pro I can't get "control A" to close all the open log files?

Thanks in advance!

We get data already broken into laps, when we make sure the following parameters are correct:

In your All Calibrate search for "Lap" not "Beacon" to make sure you don't miss something.

Lap Mode = Enabled
Lap GPS Mode = Enabled
Lap GPS Radius = 10m
Lap GPS Beacon 1 Latitude and Longitude
Lap GPS Beacon 1 Number = 1

I appreciate the reply!

I have the same settings under lap you recommended except radius is 5m. I have tried 10m previous to last weekend and changed it to 5m trying to get this to work. There is one I am not clear about and it's "Lap Beacon Main". I have it set to 0.

When I download the data it comes as one long "lap" and I generate laps using Tools>Lap Generator>Generate laps>Current data source>execute. Is it supposed to download as laps from from the ecu? With this process it doesn't appear to recognize what I have in the ecu as "Beacon 1" because it sets start finish incorrectly, I assume where the cursor is set?

What lap channels are you logging? Our logged data has:

Lap Beacon Number Main
Lap Enable
Lap GPS Closest Beacon
Lap Beacon Number
Lap Beacon Ticks
Lap Distance
Lap GPS Diagnostic
Lap Number
Lap State
Lap Time

Sorry, I realized I am not answering your questions:

There is one I am not clear about and it's "Lap Beacon Main". I have it set to 0.

From the help, (shown in your first post), Main = 0 is correct, since you only have one beacon at this track, it will be used as Start/Finish.

When I download the data it comes as one long "lap" and I generate laps using Tools>Lap Generator>Generate laps>Current data source>execute. Is it supposed to download as laps from from the ecu?

Yes, if the correct channels are logged, I2 will recognize this, format the data into laps, and create the track map if it doesn't exist (so first time at a new track). Note: you do have to be using a Circuit workspace to get laps, but you wouldn't see generate laps if you were in an Engine or Drag workspace.

With this process it doesn't appear to recognize what I have in the ecu as "Beacon 1" because it sets start finish incorrectly, I assume where the cursor is set?
The Beacon info in the ECU is only used to generate laps -- it never passes onto I2 (unless you log it), but I2 wouldn't use it anyway. It just uses GPS coordinates at the current cursor postion, or what you type in, or from a built-in venue database that you don't edit.

You have probably nailed it there. It never occurred to me to check the logging for lap times. The only thing I am (now was) logging are the default of

Lap Beacon number main
Lap Beacon number
Lap Beacon ticks

I won't be able to check it until we go to the track in 3 weeks but I bet this is the problem.

I just saw your other reply. So if I understand correctly I'm still going to have to enter what I want to use for start finish so laps from different sessions can be overlayed for comparison based on track position?

Once the track map has been created with the same start/finish as the data sets are using, it will be easy to overlay laps. You won't need to do anything special except with the older data sets if you need them for comparison.

I suggest, you figure out a way to test this in advance of your next track outing. How about laps around your building, or block, or a big parking lot or field? You don't have to go fast, just pass the GPS Beacon Coordinates, and test the logged data in I2.

Great information thank you. I'm not clear on creating the track map with the same start/finish that the other data sets are using. After the very first session at a new track I create the track with the start/finish by setting those coordinates in the lap generator? Then no matter what laps are created in ecu it will match up with the track when I manually entered the start/finish into the lap generator?
