Merge data feature

Postby MalcolmG on Tue Mar 06, 2018 12:50 pm

After seeing it mentioned in another thread, I had a bit of a play with the merge data feature in i2. Is there any documentation, or can I get a brief summary, of how the merge data feature works?

On several of our vehicles we have data from a dash and an ECU, where there are often duplicates of engine related channels in the dash but they're logged at a higher rate in the ECU than in the dash - it would be great if when I merged them it chose the data that was logged at the higher rate, but it appears that it doesn't. If I knew how to get reliable and repeatable results from merging data files I could greatly simplify the CAN bus streams between dash and ECU!

On a somewhat related note, a piece of software that could download from multiple devices simultaneously and apply the same details to all downloaded logs (or just merge them into one log) would save me a lot of copying and pasting of comments and tabbing back and forth between Dash Manager and M1 Tune

Hi Malcolm,

The merge function as it stands is pretty basic. It simply takes whatever you select as your main and adds any channels from your overlay that don't conflict with existing channels in the main. Any channel that has the same name is ignored. It doesn't take into account logging rates either.

So for example you could have Engine Speed at 5Hz in your Main and 200Hz in your overlay, your merged file will have Engine Speed at 5Hz.

The length of the resulting file will also be the length of your main irrespective of the length of the overlay.

I will add a feature request to look at how we can make it a bit more useful.
