Hello,
I was wondering if MoTeC would be supported in a number of games coming out over the next year or so -- rFactor2, Project CARS, Assetto Corsa, etc...? Your software is superb in iRacing.

It would help if you or someone approached the gaming community to make a business case for that.
The other business case to be made is to MoTeC. For example some tangible ($) or intangible benefit like marketing and having the S/W available for education use (which they already support). You would have to make a case that the gaming S/W could be educational.

Mr Tyreslip,
we have spent a great deal of time discussing this possibility, and there are plenty of advantages to the MoTeC brand to have our software used in game software.
Unfortunately, the reasons not to provide this software at present outweighs the reasons to do so.
As a buisness, we manufacture and sell motorsport software and hardware, the work involved to allow the use with games properly cannot be justified.
The gamers currently using it, other than GTR and GTR2 are doing so illegally.
regards,
Jamie

Hi Jamie,
Thank you for the reply. I wonder if the benefits for MoTeC within the gaming arena -- and the exposure it delivers for the product -- strengthens the case for allowing it in games. AIM and McLaren are also moving into this area (the former in AC and the latter in iRacing). If an older version of the software could be utilised without the need for expensive in-house development by yourselves of the latest software, that would at least mitigate the cost risk to MoTeC. What about a prominent MoTeC logo displayed in the splash green of games and within the cars set up pages of racing sims? That is a serious amount of exposure, particularly in racing products capable of selling in their hundreds of thousands/millions.
I had never heard of MoTeC before GTR2. For me it feels the best of the data analysis software packages and I have experience of a few in RL racing scenarios -- it is intuitive, clear and comprehensive. This is a perfect set of qualities for use in games focusing on the more serious end of the racing sims market.
Anything you might be able to do to help facilitate that for gamers I know would be extremely well received. It does not have to be live telemetry output (but of course that would be fantastic), but analysis after the session in-game is complete. I love MoTeC as I have said and want to see it in the virtual racing products I love too. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

tyreslip,
thanks for taking the time to reply. We have had numerous discussions at MoTeC regarding the use of gaming software, and have been over this matter for days and weeks.
There are some compelling reasons to allow the use of i2 with Games, and I do believe that getting our brand and quality of product to the masses of car racing interested gamers would be great.
But, after the last time, where some of our marketplace competitors started using our game interface to allow their customers to illegally use i2, it was decided that it is just too much of a risk to our core business to open that hole again.
It is a shame, but at the end of the day, if we ended up losing our paying customers because of the faculities that we provide to gamers, then this isnt worth while for MoTeC to do as a buisiness.
That decision is also ignoring the implementation work we would need to do, and support that each game requires. This work is often requested to come from us FOC, along with the rights to use the software.
So, in the end, we just couldnt justify the work required, and risks involved in getting into the gaming industry again.
regards,
Jamie

Jamie, Thanks for your thoughtful and learned reply.
It probably does not belong in this thread, but an iPad app might be worthwhile and there may be a large market.
Even moreso if it played everyones files.

Yes, I can entirely see your point considering the effort and the expenditure -- and of course the potential security issues. My only other thought is whether there is an argument to release the four year old version of MoTeC (as the genie is effectively already out of the bottle in this respect) as some kind of means of pure promotion.
If the release within games was seen in purely promotional terms for the product, there remains a highly compelling case for getting it out there in that respect, particularly as competitive products are already doing so. Exposure to many millions of users across multiple platforms (which today's crop of sims being developed generally cater for) is a gift for companies? And as sims get more and more complex and sophisticated, they are used by more and more people within the motorsports industry for leisure and also some form of development, thereby increasing exposure to your target market.
MoTeC's the best: let's shout about it everywhere
