Problem with export and decimals

Postby madmatt on Wed Sep 21, 2016 11:27 pm

Hello,

I would like to know how can I export outings with the chosen number of decimals in i2 software. For example with RPM when I select 3 decimals, it works properly in the software, but when I try to export the outing, the RPM channel is an integer.

Thanks!

I have just tested this here and, i2 will export an RPM channel with 3 decimal places no problems. What version of i2 are you using?

One thing to note, the exported file will only have the actual sampled values, so for RPM the base resolution is 0.1Hz which is 6RPM. If you set the cursor to snap to sample point (done in the display tab of the properties window for the time/distance graph) you will see that the decimal places are always zero.

If you are exporting to csv and then using Excel to open it, Excel will ignore the zeros so it looks like you are only getting integers. If you use notepad or something similar to open the csv you will see that all of the decimal places are there and they will all be zero.

I am running i2 standard x64 1.1.2.473.

You mention "base resolution". Is it something that can be changed? For instance my "ground speed" channel was logged at 20Hz but I can only see 1 decimal when it is exported (which is also the default decimal setting in i2).

So the 3 decimals things is only for the interpolation in Motec I see. And I believe there is no way to export those "interpolated" points, right?

The base resolution is the one that was set in the logging device. It depends on what device you are using to log the data as to whether you can change the base resolution or not. In the dashes, you can simply select a channel that has a different base resolution where as the ECUs are set and can't be changed.

No i2 will only export real logged values, interpolated values don't actually exist and are of no real use for data analysis. Also if you could, you would end up with exported files that are essentially infinite in size.
