DMCD (fried another one)

Postby Ben-S on Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:46 pm

I've now burned 5 DMCD's on my race car. I cannot figure out what the issue is, the signal is WELL within all of the maximum values outlined in the datasheet. I have never changed the wiring (it's correct) and in some cases they last 5 minutes in other cases they last 6 months. I sent two back for "analysis" but never heard anything. Is anyone else having issues with these?

Ben,

How did you wired it up? Did you tap into + side of the ABS sensor?

In case anyone else has the same problem Simon at Motec West in the US has informed me that these are better off wired to 8V instead of the 12V that is implied in the instructions. The 8V channel eliminates voltage spikes from the alternator (or anything else for that matter) and the unit runs just fine from 6-16V. So far with the switch to 8V they have been working great.
