M800 PNP in different car

Postby plohl on Mon Dec 01, 2014 8:31 am

Hi,

Bit of a random question, but has anyone had experience using an M800 pnp ecu (wrx, evo etc.) in different car?
From what I have found the PNP m800 have all the same functionality with as a standard M800? Or is the ref/sync locked to the PNP car model?

I am just wondering if I could run an 06 WRX STi M800 in another car for a while.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

What is the other car that you want to use the ECU in? the boards are designed to have specific functions on those pins, and are not designed to run functions other than that specified in the matching documentation.

mx5, as simple as you can get.

So for example, if pin A5 (random pin number) was an switched output for a thermo fan, it could only ever be used as a thermo fan, not changed in the software to something else?

Pretty much,

The feeds to the pins are designed to cope with the expected loads that will be placed on them, and changing this can cause issues.

Note the PNP's are locked to the OEM ref/sync mode.

The OEM's are NOT locked to a specific ref/sync mode. They are the same main board as a Gold Box M800, with a separate daughter board attached that provides the interface between the M800 board and the vehicle loom.

They are not quite the same, they cannot do low OHM injectors as the circuitry is not included on the OEM version of the ECU board.

The ref/sync modes are definitely not locked to a particular pattern.

Extra interface parts on the adapter that make it work in the intended engine\car, will make it difficult to use in another engine\car as the calibrations will be incorrect and outputs may have extra parts on them as well creating unwanted results.

Also like other people have written, the tracks on the adapter PCB and OEM are different to the normal M800 & M880, possibly limiting the current that can switch.

Some if not all will have jumpers on the daughter board to change pin assignments. You'll need the docs from Motec for a pinout.
