Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I ended up speaking to Mark from MoTeC a few days ago. He confirmed some of what has been said here, which I have outlined below should anyone ever try and find this information.

Software is the same so you can theoretically change everything you could on a gold box unit. Has some limited functionality such as only High ohm injectors, won't run hi/lo and a few other things I can't remember.
Daughter board adds stuff to work with OEM gear. Caps, resistors, pull ups etc. Board is designed for specific loads. Therefore is it basically hardware limited on what you can assign to pins.
It has been done, although it is not recommended.
cheers

I have used these very sucessfully (with appropriate mods) on numerous MX5 / Miata of all models both here and in Japan.....Even VVT/ turbo /DBW with ECU driving all factory functions (alternator PWM, factory gauges, tacho, speed with new diff ratio, A/C, etc.). All fits into factory box and looks like std MX5 ecu...even do plug-in loom to order MX5SE & MX5SP, NA6 / NA8 / NB8A&B.

Including one BP turbo just of dyno making an easy SAE J1349 rated 378hp/ 385lbft road car, with great idle, oil pressure / temp / overheat shutdon protection...E85/flex fuel sesnor and fuel/spk modification based on FF sesnor. Uses factory plugs on loom, and in std NB8A box. Runns 4 x LTC as well for mapping
Some people will go to big lengths to keep factory "looking" ecu, an this even has CAN wires back in loom out to diag plug with special adapter harness to use factory diag plug to reprogram (something about NSW rego and STD eCU racing classes ;-) )
Depends what MX5 you own as to what is easy / hard to do.

OEM M800 is very versatile unit, if you understand it's limitations and are considerate to the fact that you are on your own as MoTeC do not and cannot condone non standard uses of these units..

CANNOT do high-low injectors, and you have to be careful of total injector current due to limited heatsinking on OEM motherboard...however, when integrated into MX5 case with Alum shell as heatsink.
But with the same M800 option unlock codes, does Traction, CAm control, DBW, antilag, etc.

However, i currently have one running a BA turbo 6 cyl, a Ford 460 bigblock V8 on LPG injection, a 202Turbo LJ drag car, and several 6cyl speedway cars (RB30 & V6 Commodore & AU/BA Falcon). Applications of 4 cyl are much more involved and require mods to OEM board...shows what can be done!
Ask JAmieA from MotEC about plug-in loom and final result...did one for his friend on MX5SE with factory OE style driveabilty, with M84 in piggy back mode..Hundreed series ECU is defintiely my recommendation though for best result / greatest futuring potentiial / racing.

I also do straight plug in jumper looms to NA-NB- MX5's so you can plug in and use unmodified factory loom, and go back to std with no wire cutting...this usually works out more cost effective with M400 ECU than OEM, but OEM is good when you want to go racing for edouble the logging mem and the extra reassignable injector /ignition outputs.

I'm in mel & geelong but can supply /support almost anywhere. Drop me a PM with car model and what you're trying to achive if you are interested..whre are you located?
