Motec Lambda option vs. aftermarket FJO WB kit?

All,

I am first time Motec user ( I have a M600 w/ SDL) and have been very confident in my current wideband system used on my previous EMS. The system I am using is from FJO Racing Products and is the Gen II system using the NTK 5-wire wideband sensor that is more resistant to leaded race fuels over the comparable Bosch sensor.

Going forward, I have some questions that hope can be answered:

1. Is there any major gains enabling the built in lambda option versus just using an aftermarket unit such as the FJO I currently have?

2. If the lambda option is enabled, does the ecu have the ability to manage the heating option of the sensor or must I acquire some additional component to provide this need? If yes, please provide details.

3. I have (2) FJO NTK sensors currently. Can one of these be used as the required sensor?

No answers for your questions.

But if MoTeC PLM can be used to get Lambda into the M800 over CAN bus, then you might be able to get your FJO lambda into the M800 over the CAN bus (or the RS232 or with a MoTeC STC).

Holmz,

I just looked into this on FJO's site, I somewhat recall that there is a digital to serial connection on the control box used for display or computer. This may be a potential with STC adapter to the CAN connections I will have.

Stupefied,
Where are you located?
If in Au - you may be able to get the FJO to Croyden and get them to work through your issues (maybe?)

I would start by find out the details of the FJO CAN Structure and the serial structure and the data rates for both.

From the questions your asking I would suggest you have a look through the user manual, Lambda sensors, there connection and some of the things the ecu can do with them are covered in there.

also have a look at the help in ecu manager in the Lambda config sections.

Absolutely. I've found external lambda modules to be points of failure in many installations. Never had the lambda option "fail" on a MOTEC. Also, the wiring is less complicated.

2. If the lambda option is enabled, does the ecu have the ability to manage the heating option of the sensor or must I acquire some additional component to provide this need? If yes, please provide details.


If you use the MOTEC lambda option, the ECU controls the heating of the sensor.

Neel and anyone else,

So if I proceed with the MoTec controlling this sensor versus the FJO, can you tell me what is the difference with the following sensors besides calibration?

Motec 57007 (don't see this being offered any more)
Motec 57003

My current NTK sensors resemble the 57007(wiring color) sans the connector (weatherpack on mine)

If possible, I would like to use my NTK sensors and pursue the air calibration versus inputting the calibrated number if the sensor was purchased from motec. Is there any negative effects going this route instead in regards to air calibration?
