M800 bare plug wiring

I am building a simple loom for a friends car to do some data logging with my M800 but I don't need a full loom.
My plan is to buy a bare plug for the ecu and just add what I need, only thing I am is unsure of is if I can buy the CAN connector loom which plugs into the M800 plug to be able to interface with the laptop. Is there a part number for this that I can buy from Motec ?
Anyone think of anything else I need ? Rpm will be read from ignition coil as it's a carby motor so no ref sync wiring needed.
Thanks.

Do not connect the ignition coil to the ref input. The ECU it is not designed to handle the coil neg voltage levels and you will damage the ECU.

I wasn't planning to use the ref input. What would you suggest for the best setup to read rpm on an engine with no trigger output ?

I have used both a m800 and ADL (still do now) to log my chassis dyno ...as I do a few carbi cars now and then I have had the same issue..we tried a reluctor coil wired to a mag to hall convetor and it was fine till we got to higher then it just shut down ....0 rpm ...

One of the tech guys at MoTeC did mention they were developing an adaptor to take the pulse directly from the neg side of a coil then convert it to run into either a ref or digi input ...that was a while ago and I have not asked again

what ever you find let me know as I could use one as well

you can buy just the connector set ..I do this all the time as I custom make all my own looms ...but you will need the correct crimper for the terminals ...and be sitting down when you get the price

as for the CAN wiring ..its very simple .. just go to jaycar ( I buy online ) and get an Amphenol connector PS1076 and wire it as per the m800 diagram ...

Yes I have one already so I won't need the heart resuscitation machine :)

So no known way to read rpm without trigger system ? Might just have to rig up a chopper wheel on the crank.

Thanks for the tip on the jay car connector ;)

You could use the V8 Supercar pickup and amplifier to pickup off a spark plug wire. Its a non contact inductive sensor.

Ok so there has been some progress, we now intend to install one of the MSD cdi ignition which has a dedicated tacho output. It states in the user manual that it is a 12 volt square wave output at a 20% duty cycle for this tacho output.
Can anyone tell me if this can be feed to an M800 to be able to read it as rpm ?

This is the link for the ignition manual PDF - http://www.msdignition.com/uploadedFile ... ructions(1).pdf
