Ref and Sync sensors for High rpm?

Postby SimonP on Tue Mar 10, 2009 8:53 pm

Hi All, Im looking for advice on what would be the best crank and cam sensors and trigger wheel setup on a 11,000rpm 4 cyl. using M800

The cam drive is by morse silent chain so its positive drive. But the sensor will be exposed to hot oil.
With the crank i am free to fit anything.

Any advice would be very helpful,
Simon

Hi again,
I`ll try to simplify the question by puting a suggestion forward.
Is there any problem using a GT101 for ref using a 12 tooth wheel?
Can i also use a GT101 for sync mounted into the timing case(hot oil), with 1 tooth? The target diameter is just under 3"(honeywell recomends 4").

Would i be better of using 36-1 for ref

The engine is a datsun A series with cbr1100 head.
max rpm 11,000.

Thanks.

We have a 36-2 trigger now which should be suitable for Ref. We also have a new hall sensor, part number 59110. This is similar to the GT101 but will be happier running in the hot oil.

Thanks Ross,
I`ll get a couple of the 59110 sensors ordered.
What diameter are the 36-2 trigger wheels?
And is the target width requirement the same for the 59110 sensors as the GT101`s?

Thanks, Simon.

Hi Simon,
The new Hall snesor is ok for the single sync tooth on the cam but i probably would not use it for the 36-2 crank trigger if you are running to 11000rpm, hall sensors generally don't like very high frequencey. A magnetic sensor would be much better for this or you could go down to 12 teeth on the crank and use a Hall sensor.
