LSU 4.9 factory calibration and LTC

I am looking into getting an LTC. I noticed that the manual says that the LTC will not operate correctly with a Bosch LSU 4.9 sensor if the factory connector with the calibrated trimming resistor is cut-off. Is it possible to use the LTC without this factory connector (and resistor) if you do an air calibration of the sensor?

If not, I'd love to know why this is not an option (especially as it could be done easily in the M880 with lambda option).

Mr Moto,
the LTC hardware uses genuine bosch componentry internally to correctly control the LSU sensors. Part of the Bosch way of calibrating and controlling the sensor is to use the cal resistor to compensate for sensor to sensor differnces.

I do understand that by air calibrating the sensor, you are in effect creating your own compensation, but after some discussion here, we are not sure that it would still air calibrate correctly if the chip was to see an IPR of 0.

Basically, the unit was designed to run the bosch sensor as it is made, including connector and resistor, and we cannot recommend any other method.
