PDM 20A AND PARALLED OUTPUTS WIRING (SPLICES) TIPS

Hi everyone!

When I've learned how to wire a PDM a few years back, the guy who teach me said it was necessary to splice together all paralleled outputs and dual pin outputs (motec 20A outputs for example), into just one wire as near as possible to the PDM.

We have been doing it but latelly some designs made it very hard to make it nice and clean with so many splices.

I've read the entire motec pdm manual and other manufactures manuals and didn't find any info about it.

So the question is:

It is really necessary to splice together all the wires that goes to dual pin outputs and/or paralleled outputs?

Hi,

We recommend the very opposite of what you have been told.

We advise to run separate wires the whole way to the device. Part of the load balancing on the pins, whether it is the two pins for a 20A output, or multiple outputs will occur due to resistance on the output. The shorter the run of wire to the the common connection, the easier there is for a variance due to how the wires are crimped. If there is any inbalance, more current will be biased through a pin/output, which can overload a pin, increase the chance of one of the paired outputs tripping from over current etc.
