PDM>Comms to Motec 5 Button rotary controller

Postby ackent on Sat May 07, 2022 8:06 pm

HI Brains trust

I have a M150, C1212, 15 button keypad, and a rotary keypad on Can bus one, everything seems to be working/communicating however I am having trouble getting the rotary keypad to register in the PDM, the dash can see the rotary keypad and the associated button presses, how do I map these in the PDM?
At this stage all I have done in the PDM is setup Keypad 2 with a CANopenID of "OE" as documented in the rotary keypad manual/PDF, not sure what to do next, I am clearly missing something.

Thanks In advance, Adrian

Hi Adrian,

While it is possible to make use of a rotary controller with a PDM the set up is slightly different to using a traditional keypad. I have attached a PDM configuration which has the CAN inputs of the rotary controller pre set.

Since you have a dash on the same bus I would recommend making use of this for anything to do with the rotary dial on the controller.

The PDM is able to see the value of the dial position channel but it would be difficult to make use of this for anything meaningful.

The buttons on the rotary controller can be used as expected with the PDM.

In dash manager you can add the included rotary controller button receive template and then make use of the rotary dial inputs.

It's important to note that the PDM will be the 'master' device in this configuration and will be responsible for the wake message and backlight brightness control.
