External 12V PC supply

Postby greenamex2 on Wed Mar 23, 2022 8:31 pm

Hi all

My front PDM16 powers an internal PC.
No problems there except when I use the PC to reprogram the front PDM the PDM reboots and the PC loses power.

The simplest solution to the issue I have come up with (apart from using a separate laptop) would be to have an power override switched from the battery to the PC so when I am performing front PDM programming.

The question is...will this cause my PDM any issues given that the PDM output to the PC will still be attached and hence the PDM output will be seeing an external voltage? I love my PDM16 and would really rather not break it!

The other alternative I had was to use a super capacitor bank, but then it started getting silly.

I would make your bypass switch be double-throw. So your internal PC is powered only by the PDM or straight from the battery. You only flip the switch when programming the PDM. It could also be as simple as two power connectors, and you connect your PC to one or the other.
