I am helping a buddy wire his car to the pdm15. We are using the AS020-16 plug with #16 pins. The fan has a Max draw of 18 amps with a min draw of 12.5. We are using 16 guage wire. Would it be fine with one 16 guage wire or would we have to use 2 wires to 2 pins? Thanks

Can you confirm if it is the PDM15 (Plastic TYCO Connectors) or PDM16 (Autosport Connectors) that you are using.

If it is the PDM15, then you will need to use two pins (20A output) for the fan, if it is the PDM16, then a single wire on one of the 20A outputs will work for the output supply capacity.

With the wire gauge, how long is the run from the PDM to the fan, and what will be the duty cycle of the fan?

It's the pdm15 we are working with. It terminates to a AS020 plug at the firewall. Then will go from firewall to PDM. From firewall to PDM is about 12". Firewall to fan is in the range of 6-7 feet.

I have some other smaller 8" fans inside as well. I had planned to use #12 tezfel wire to them. and the other electrical components in the car. Can i crimp a #12 wire to the pins in the PDM?

About the biggest wire you would be able to do in a superseal 1.0 socket contact would be what I understand to be #16. The problem you will run in to if the wire is too big is that the contact won't fit through the backshell of the connector.

For 20A outputs I have just run #16 wire from end to end from both pins of the output, all my high current stuff is meters away so I accepted the increase in wire gauge to keep any voltage drops in check and made sure I have plenty of wire capacity in the engine bay where temperatures are higher.

The Tyco terminals used in the PDM connector come in two sizes, 0.5mm2 (approx 20G) and 0.75 to 1.25mm2 (approx 18-16G). You shouldn't use anything bigger than 16G otherwise you won't be able to crimp it properly and you will get a bad connection. 16G wire will be big enough for the current rating of the PDM output (One 16G for an 8A output and two 16G wires for a 20A output) anyway.

As for your Autosport bulkhead connector, the size 16 pins used in that connector are rated at 20A.

Sorry, have another question, We are working with a EPAS system in which it says it uses 27amps. Doesn't specify if its max or not. If this was running amperage, would i be using 3 pins? Two for the 20 amp and 1 for the 8amp?

For my EPAS with PDM30 I have used two 20A outputs, connecting 16 gauge to all 4 pins from PDM to EPAS pump. Looking at current when in use its minimal with no steering and only goes up to around 10 amps on circuit. I don't tend to use full lock whilst racing! but I do in the paddock

You would need to either use 2 X 20A or 3 X 8A outputs and they need to be linked up electrically outside the PDM. You can add more than one output together but they need to be the same type, not mixed.
