Polarity Reverse circuits

Hi all,

Not new to PDM's but new to Motec PDM's..... we have just purchased a PDM30 for a project car we're building and I have a couple of devices (actuators and electronic handbrake) that have 2 wires for 12V+ and 12V- and so pretty straight forward to turn on, but when you want to return it to the other position we need to reverse the polarity.

Now I know how you would traditionally achieve that with a relay, but just wondered what other people have done on this scenario with a PDM and if there's anything any different or if we just take the relay approach ?

It just feels clunky to go with a relay when you have something so smart as the PDM....... so wanted to make sure there wasn't a smarter alternative.

So I assume by the lack of replies that Motec themselves don't actually use this to answer customer queries as an official support mechanism........

What do others do if they want a definitive answer on something ? Is there any e-mail address etc ?

BTW -- to answer your question, the PDM can't do what you want directly, but I think you could use a Dual Half Bridge with two PDM outputs (or two ECU or Dash Aux Outputs) to do that. You may be able to drive such a device directly from the Half-Bridge Outputs found in the M1 Series ECUs also.

Is the actuator you speak of, a low current device like a boost control solenoid?

Low current devices can be controlled or switched by GPR M1xx directly through it's DHB. If it's a high current device like an DC inductive motor such as a fuel pump, cooling fan, etc...then an external driver would need to be used such as the RaceGrade SSD or the MoTec DHB.
