PDM30 bmw mini steering pump control

Postby vansingelm on Thu May 19, 2022 2:40 am

Hi all,

Sorry if i ask a stupid question but i did not find something that could help me..

I have a PDM30 and a bmw mini steering pump mounted in my car.
The steering pump has 3 connections:
1: 12v hot in ON or START
2: 12v when Starting
3: Comms

i have 2 separate output from my pdm to the steering, when I make both live on the same time the pump starts working really slow.

Now i figured out with some wires and a battery that when pin 1 is live all the time and i make pin 2 live for 1sec the pump starts working immediatly like it should.
To turn off the pump i need to remove power from pin 1 for 1sec.

My question is now: How do i program it in the software so i can control it this way with a keypad button?

Many thanks in advance!

Mitchell

Does your PDM activate the starter motor? Could you turn this power on only when the starter motor is activated (ie, use the same conditions, or even the same output).

You probably want to create a condition function that uses the "Pulse" operator. You can specify what edge to start, and how long to hold the pulse for. You use this function as the condition for your output.

Thanks for the reply!

My pdm controls the starter but i forgot to tell that it's also needed to put on the pump when the engine is off.
is it maybe possible to give me an example of the pulse operator function then i can find the rest normally.

I created this PDM 30 configuration.
It configures a Keypad button to toggle the Steering Pump On/Off.
The button status lights show when Output 1 and Output 2 are active.
There is a function "Steering Pump Switch", that turns a momentary button into an On/Off Switch
Steering Output 1 uses the Steering Pump Switch status to enable the output
Steering Output 2 does a 1 second pulse of the output when the Steering Pump Switch turns on.

Hopefully this will help. I have not tried this on a real PDM, so let me know if it needs modification.
