Exhaust Back Pressure Sensor - Compatibility

Postby bazeng on Wed Nov 11, 2009 1:11 am

Hi guys,

Will this be compatible with the SDL?

I'm looking for some sensors to monitor back pressure prior to the turbo.

Does motec offer anything of the sort?

I would expect that we could read those sensors into an ECU or a dash without any problems, but we don't stock an exhaust back pressure sensor specifically.

the links that you provided don't really show any calibration information, but looking at them, I would guess a .5 - 4.5v sensor range, which we could use no problems.

After more discussion...

you couldnt run that sensor directly into the exhaust, I suspect at 800deg, the sensor would melt the plastic end off it, and the electronics would fail. So assuming it is just another pressure sensor, then you should just use a normal delco pressure sensor, and a coil of bundy tubing to get the temperature out of the gas before it gets to the sensor...

I have looked into a few other exhaust pressure sensors (Kelvico for example) and they have a max temp of 125c, so again, they would need to be mounted far away from the exhaust itself also, so no advantage to them over any of the other pressure sensor options either...

Jamie,

Do you know a supplier? or do you supply these?

I would like 2.

Thanks for the link IDP, I looked into those and depending if I can get some locally, I'll get them from those guys.

They too will also require a cooling coil in order to work.

They quoted about $370USD for 2 sensors without the coil shipped to AUS.

I would just recommend running a delco map sensor on the end of a coil of tube. They are relatively inexpensive, and easy to source.
