SDL Power Supply

Postby Martin on Sun Aug 03, 2008 5:13 am

Hi,

Would it be possible to run an SDL from the download connector (0v, 8v, Can Hi, Can Lo) as a separate logger in a race car? The reason im asking is id like to plug a SDL into the downlaod connector of cars (racing in the same class running Mx00 ECU`s) to be able to do spot checks on certain engine parameters and log them to varify that they are within the rules.

The logging kit will be a backlit SDL and BL1 Gps all installed into a box that will be added into the car without modifying or adding any wiring. Would the ECU 8v supply enough current for the SDL and GPS to stay alive?

Thanks

Martin

Hi Martin,

I couldn't recommend doing that.
The 8V sensor supply from an M800 is 0.3A. The SDL draws 0.15A + BackLight, and the GPS around 0.2A, so it's over the rated current. It may work tho, and the sensor supply is protected.
You would be better off running the unit from a 12V, 5A/hr gel cell battery. That should give you ~10hrs running time on one charge.
