SDL3 Fuel level signal dampening.

Hi,
yesterday i setup a SDL3 to read fuel level in a Commodore ute.
The ute has been fitted with a custom alloy tank.
I used Analogue Temp 1 as my input for the standard 2 wire resistive sender unit.
Everything works fine except the sender is very sensitive to any movement.
EG if you rock the vehicle the fuel level in litres varies very easily.
Even when adding fuel to the tank at 5 litres at a time and doing a READ VALUE when calibrating the resistance value would vary for approx 40 to 60 seconds until the float stopped moving.
Is there a way to dampen the signal or condition the signal to make it less sensitive to movement.
I am using 1000 ohms in the Analogue temp setup in the software.

Not the answer you want but:
Have you considered baffling or fuel cell foam in the tank?
It would be worth looking at the fuel pressure to make sure that the tank/pump does not suck air.

Yes, you need to go to setup calibration section and increase the filtering for the sensor.
Higher filtering means less instantaneous change in values but react more slowly.
How much filtering is down to trial and error but I had to put a fairly high number when doing my road car setup .

Hi,
thanks for the replies.
I will have a play with the filtering rates.
I have also setup Aux output 1 from the SDL3 to turn on a LED when the fuel level gets to 10 ltrs or less.
I programmed the SDL3 to display FUEL LO and FLASH as a warning on the bottom line.
I have setup Aux 1 to flash when active, this works fine.
I have also setup Aux output 2 to turn on an LED when the oil pressure is below 20 psi,as well as the SDL3 displaying OIL PRESS flashing as a warning.
I have also programmed Aux output 2 to flash when at 20 psi or less,
For some reason i cant get Aux output 2 to flash, it comes on solid only.
Any ideas.
Regards
Dave.

I dont really understand what you mean here:

"I have also setup Aux output 2 to turn on an LED when the oil pressure is below 20 psi,as well as the SDL3 displaying OIL PRESS flashing as a warning.
I have also programmed Aux output 2 to flash when at 20 psi or less,"

maybe post your config for me to look at.

jamie

Hi Jamie,
I have connected an LED to Aux output 2 on the SDL3.
I have programmed it to be active when the oil press is equal to or less than 20 psi.
I have selected the flash option for the output.
So at present if the Oil Press is 20 psi or less the LED comes on solid, it will not flash.
I have the SDL3 programmed so that it displays OIL LO when the condition is true, this also works.
I have tried to attatch the file but for some reason it says i cant upload a U22 extension.
