SDL3, RS232 voltage levels

Postby adam7 on Thu Sep 29, 2011 12:37 pm

Having been inspired by the excellent webinar on GPS, I'm considering adding a GPS module into my Motec system (M400 + SDL3). Looking at using a module with "LVTTL" (0v-3.3v) via one the RS232 port on the SDL or M400. I realise I might need to add a level shifter, so can anyone tell me Motrc RS232 Rx trigger levels. I guess the SDL3 & M100 series might be different given that the Motec 5Hz GPS unit works with both, but the 10Hz version only the SDL3(and some other newer log units).
Cheers

I asked about fast updating GPS receivers and 100 series ecus a little while ago and OmarK replied here:

I think it's more to do with giving the engine ecu processor too much work to do, rather than the signal level outputs, as to whether Motec recommend feeding the data to the ecu, or straight to the logger.

I have the figures for the 5Hz GPS receiver voltage outputs if you want them. E-mail me at chris@chriswilsontv and I'll mail them over as a .png file.

If they are just needed in the SDL then the "STC" is probably the way to go.
Maybe you could send the GPS and get the STC (Serial To CAN) back all set up???

But I think that there is no way too get CAN based GPS into the Mxxx ECUs.
