RS232 Setup

Postby AndreL on Wed Mar 02, 2011 6:47 pm

I am configuring an ADL3 for our racing car and want to know what the correct setup is of the RS232 comms. I am going to connect a RF modem to the RS232 of the ADL3 for telemetry purposes. If the config file is necessary to see the current config then I can post it here aswell.

The setup for this is quite simple.

Under Functions menu, select telemetry.

In here, add in all of the channels that you wish to send. That is it in that page.

Next, go into the communications setup screen, under the connections menu.

Highlight the RS232 row, then press the select button

From here, choose Telemetry only.

Set the baud rate in the box in the bottom right hand corner.

Now you just need to wire RS232 TX (70) on your dash to RS232 RX on your radio.

on the recieveing radio, just use a straight serial cable from your recieving modem to your PC

Start up telemetry monitor, and in the settings, communications, data source tab, select your serial port, and your baud rate...

all done.

Plus you need the "Telemetry" option enabled in the ADL3

If you dont have the telemetry option enaled, we dont, is it possible to connect to our own telemetry monitor? We have programmed a dashboard in LabView which displays the channels similarly to the MoTeC Telemetry Monitor and connects to an RS232 device. Will I need to know the format of the transmitted bits from the ADL3 to know what I am receiving and to link it to a channel on the laptop side?

you can send out your own RS232 list in another format, but the MoTeC TM application wont recognise it, though you own application will if you program it correctly.
