ADL and Backlight

Hi all,

Does the original ADL (4Mb) come with backlight functionality on Pin 6. I've noticed the inverter module (Drawing A13) makes a reference to the ADL and ADL 2, however they both have Pin 6 showing as a Spare.

If it does, does it need the inverter to function or does it work if 12v DC is applied to Pin 6.

Many thanks

All ADl's (ADL, ADL2 or ADL3) can be either backlit or non backlit. Basically, there are 2 completely different LCD's, one which is for a backlit dash, one which isnt.

If it was built as a backlit dash, you just need to plug in an inverter (not required for SDL or ADL3) and it will start working. If your dash wasnt buit as a backlit model, then it wont work.

You can convert non backlit to backlit, but it is fairly involved, it has to come back here, have the display removed and have a new one added in its place that is backlit. It is a big job, and therefore isn't cheap to do.

regards

Jamie

What would a backlit ADL do if you applied 12v to pin6?

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have no idea of what spec LCD the dash was built with, being an older dash, it has had a number of previous owners!

Is there any visual way of telling (screen shade/markings etc) or is the only way of finding out to plug in an inverter?

I'm on a budget so converting it, if it isn't backlit, isn't an option unfortunatly.

Thanks again
