MDD Backlight Failure

Hi,

I have an MDD coupled with an M4 ECU, and recently the backlight has stopped working. The display otherwise works fine. The local MoTeC agent has informed me that MoTeC no longer stock the components to repair them. Has any one else experienced this failure, know of repairers that still have components, or any potential remedies to try?

The unit is only 4 years old and has had very limited use. I have considered replacing with a C125, but this is a little too large for my XW steering column. The D153 requires a datalogger, as far as I'm aware, so is not a cost effective option.

Hi Daniel,

The reason that we are unable to repair the MDD's is that the components needed are no longer made and we haven't been able to source a replacement component that can be used without reworking the whole unit.

The D153 can be used as a standalone display without a logger, in your case however, the reason that you are unable to use a D153 like this is the ECU that you have, as the D153 uses CAN for the communications interface rather than serial and the M4 doesn't have a CAN Bus in it.

Thank you for the response.
Hypothetically, if I used an STC, https://www.motec.com.au/filedownload.p ... docid=2802, configured to convert M4 serial to emulate M800 CAN signal, could the D153 be configured to work? Display creator looks like it has a template to send M800 CAN to a D153.

Hi Daniel,

We are going to look into this, it may not be until next week due to the Grand Prix and staff being onsite to provide category support.

The current STC's have been updated in functionality since this datasheet was done (2008) and the way that the Dashes handle data has also evolved since then. The Displays at the time had a specific receive template that interpreted the data stream out of the STC and allowed for it to be displayed on the Dash, this template doesn't work in the current Displays, and the data is coded differently to the M800 CAN receive stream in Display Creator.
