ADL to PC Connection

Hi all,

I'm hoping to get some help here, I have ADL display which I'm trying to connect to the laptop to change the configuration for Pectel E2 ECU (not even sure if this is possible).

I'm using USB to Serial converter, which I'm using with different program without any issues coming to Com1, but I'm not able to see or upload the ADL setup.

I have used pin 2 and 3 in the 9 pin connector connected to pin 79 and 78 (tried to swap them as well) and also common ground from the ADL with the Pin 5 on the Serial Connector.

I have setup the Com port to match the Laptop Baudrate 9600, No Flow control, I get only the following message:

Timeout Waiting for header

it is the same as not connected anything to the serial port, I have tried different configuration, but still no luck at all.

My laptop is Win8 64, I have found information it is not working with ADL Dash manager, only with ADL2 Dash Manager:

If you are using any 64 bit version of Windows 7 or 8, you must download ADL2 and UTC 64 bit USB drivers from software/latestreleases for the communications to work between your laptop and the device.

but I get exactly same message as on ADL Dash Manager.

Would you guys be able to advise, what I'm doing wrong?
Would you know, if it is possible to connect the ADL to Pectel E2?

Thank you in advance for any advice

ADL setup (using MoTeC Dash Manager) does not use the ADL serial port.

It is configured over the CAN bus, and you use the MoTeC UTC (USB-To-CAN) adapter to your PC.

So, step one -- find the 5-pin connector on your ADL harness. Attach the UTC to this connector and your computer.

Then use the MoTeC Dash Manager menu Online->Get Configuration.

Thanks Dave,

So the options are either use UTC on 64bit laptop, or 32bit version of Windows?

I use MoTeC Dash Manager 3.2 with the ADL on 64-bit Win7 without issue. What problem are you experiencing other than not using the right communication cable? Yes, it's a 32-bit application, but that should run on your Win8 64-bit OS.

Be sure to use the correct Dash Manager for your dash. The ADL2 Dash Manager will not work with an ADL. It can be quite frustrating if you accidentally open the wrong one and think communication isn't happening, when its really that you have the wrong dash manager. Happens to me often with C185 & C125.

BTW - the quote above about "ADL2 and UTC drivers" is because the ADL2 has built-in USB (like a built-in UTC). So the driver you download from (http://www.motec.com.au/filedownload.ph ... docid=3576) will support both of those interfaces.

That's what I have used, Dash Manager 3.2 set for serial port, when I don't connect the USB to serial I get message Com 1 port is not in use (or something similar), when I plug my USB to Serial, it gets the this message:

Timeout Waiting for header

that doesn't changed if I connect the display or not.

I was under impression the ADL is available to be configured via Serial port as per the following chart:

You *MIGHT* be able to get the serial comms to work -- after you had configured the dash to make sure the serial port baud rate was set, etc.

I wasn't even aware that mode existed (using MoTeC ADL's for the last 19 years!). So obviously I won't be able to help any further.

Buy a UTC - or send the dash to someone that can make the config change for you and send it back. Won't you be using the serial port for the Pectel T2 ECU anyway? There is a RS-232 Comms template for several Pectel data streams.
