SDL compound can messages

Postby lumley32 on Sun Feb 02, 2014 10:37 am

so i have a Life Racing F88 transmitting to an SDL over CAN, when i set it up i couldn't get the SDL to pick up compound messages from the ecu. at the time i just made 6 new templates just using 4 channels in each and this got me going, now i need more channels from the ECU. its transmitting them but i can't get the SDL to read more than 4 per can template.

i have tryed everything i can think off, if i make a compound receive template in ADL manager and import it the first 4 channels work as expected but the rest just come out as 0 on the dash.

is the SDL able to work with more than 4 channels per template or am i missing something?

any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks, Rich

Rich,

SDL and ADL do not have the ability to do this... an ADL2 can do this on channel 8 or higher... all of the latest release display/loggers can do this.

for now, you will have to pick the pertinent data sent from the LR ecu that you need displayed and/or logged.

if that is the case, why is it that on lots of the other can templates that come with the SDL there are more than 4 channels?

i know that you cant make your own templates in the SDL software, but its easy to make them in ADL2 and copy them across.

Hello Rich

Have you read the 'ADL Advanced Communications' tech note (attached)? Page 4 explains how to set the communications up to receive compound messages.

Obviously the comms need to be configured in a different manager software, but it should work OK once you have it set up correctly, copied the comms file across and imported it into the SDL file.

the messages from the f88 are not sent in a compound format just a range of base addresses.
