Lambda

We have an installation that has M800 and ADL on it.

The ADL has lambda enabled. The M800 does not.

Is there any way the ADL's lambda readings can be exported back to the ecu - via the can bus for example?

I know it can go the other way.......

There sure is...its quite easy too

But the the 4 wire sensor is not really what you want. Why not get the 5wire lambda enabled on the ECU?

Do you guys know how to setup (wiring) an ADL1 with Lambda enabled for 5 wire?

Anything with 5 wire lambda only shows wiring diagrams for PLM or an ECU.

Its not posiable to wire a 5 wire sensor to any MoTeC product that was desiged to use the 4 wire

you have a few options ...

1 enable lambda on your ecu ..
2 use a PLM and send data to both dash and ecu via CAN
I do this and it works very well..
3 use a LTC (lambda to CAN) and send it to both
I would use these from now on..cheaper than a PLM and smaller

At this point we're mostly using ADL's in our day to day for testing and analysis work. We have a PLM that we've CAN'd to the ADL and that worked beautifully. Unfortunately, it is a fixed unit since it is afixed to another piece of equipment (Dyno). And it makes it a bit of a pain to have to take along the PLM with you whenever you go out on the road for some testing. The ADL is handy if you're doing some prototype controls and datalogging, one power setup and you're ready to go.

Looking at the wiring diagram between the 5-wire and 4-wire units, do you think it is possible to run just 4 wires on a 5 wire and get relative 4-wire accuracy? I would think that the main difference between the two sensors really comes down to the current wire.

Ultimately, I think that an LTC is probably the best solution. What is the ballpark pricing on an LTC?

I guess I have to clarify the three scenarios where I see that we would use this equipment.

1) On the dyno/road with standalone ECU - covered by PLM
2) Available O2 bung - PLM/LTC
3) Regressive testing in-vivo - In scenarios where you have to leave the OEM O2 in place so as not to interrupt any controls strategy, I would like to know if simply pushing the 12 volt into ADL Lambda option would display lambda.

Hi Peter,

It is not as simple as rewiring a 5-wire lambda sensor into the 4-wire lambda input of an ADL, ADL2 or SDL. The sensors are fundamentally different so it is not possible. There are many websites that illustrate the differences between the sensors themselves physically and also how they operate.

You have mentioned the LTC and PLM and these would be the best options to use with a modern 5-wire wideband lambda sensor. In terms of pricing, you will need to contact a MoTeC dealer.
