GTR 4WD control

Postby Alex B on Wed Aug 12, 2009 8:04 am

Hi Everybody,

Has anyone attempted to control GTR (R32, 33 or 34) 4WD system by some device (ECU, ADL etc) other then stock ATTESA ECU?

We are having problems with high powered R34 4WD throwing errors during hard acceleration and
shutting off 4WD.

So as a simple solution I am thinking of wiring the control solenoid to ECU or SDL and
using simple speed/gforce table to control front torque.

More complex solution would be switching the whole system to SDL/ECU including
closed loop line pressure control, 4 wheel speed sensors, G sensor, TH sensor,
steering sensor.

Best regards
Alex

Hi Alex,

We haven't tried this here but one of our dealers in Sydney uses a MoTeC dash to control the GTR 4WD system. I would recommend speaking to them directly about advice. Here are their contact details.

Hi Alex,
This has even been done with an M8 many years ago. Remember that the ECU sends out signals based on its sensors and really does not care what is on the recieving end, likewise the solenoid on the GTR center diff does not care where the signal comes form. As long as the current, frequency, voltage, etc. of the signals are compatible there is no reason why this cannot be done.

BTW, I am Mark, Omar is OmarK as in Omar Khan....I don't think either of us want to be confused with each other (joke). ;)

Hi Mark,

Its not a problem to control the solenoid. Its quite another thing to integrate the whole system i.e. hydraulic pump w. closed loop pressure control, 2-axis G-sensor, 4 wheel speed sensors, oil level sensor and other channels (RPM, TH, Brake switch) to operate the OEM system with full control of the all parameters.

Do you think it might be worth considering SDC or MDC for this task?

Best regards
Alex

P.S. Omar, apologize for confusion.
