M600 issues

Best explained by looking at the log file.

RPM and cam positions(indicated only) jump around when under load.

I thought it might be noise, It's not a RF noise issue, eliminated that by running a separate shielded REF cable to the ecu along a different route to the rest of the loom.
I thought it might be voltage drop, eliminated that by powering coils and injectors from a separate power source, relieving the load on the ECU power source - solved the voltage drop at load, but no other difference.

Engine is Subaru EZ30R - setup using mode 39, as I can't get mode 52 to fire at all.

Tempted to pull the M600 and sell it on ebay.
I invite you to restore my faith.

I looked at your file without the intent on trying to help as I am a mere beginner.

But, I'm sure I'm stating the obvious, but battery voltage begins to falls above 4000rpm to the point where it is 11.8v at at 6000rpm (5:12-5:13 on the time). At the same time the ref and sync voltages go a little haywire.

Being a simple person, is there any possibility that the alternator drive belt is slipping?

Thanks Steve,

I considered the voltage drop was a possible problem. With the original install, all the power was drawn from a single post on the ign relay. Since the log you see, I have run a separate power source for the coils and injectors, and upgraded earths for these and the ecu.

The voltage drop has been solved and now stays above 12.5v all the time.

I would be tempted to solve the voltage drop on the car before proceeding, as it may be the root of other issues.

Hello,
You need to send me a ref/sync capture so I can see that you have the correct setup in the ECU. There are a few different ref/syn modes for the Subaru engines and they need to be wired differently.

It looks like noise to me simply becasue the RPM trace goes so high when the problem occurs. The RPM channel is simply counting teeth to work out the crank speed and is relitively seperate from the actual ref/sync pattern (if you are talking about becoming syncronized).

The engine seems to be capable of going to the limiter without problem in first gear and it is only when you get the boost up that it has a problem....higher boost, higher load on the ignition system, more noise.

Attach a ref/sync capture at a bit above idle (say 1500rpm) with the cams retarded and advanced. And let me know what modifications have been done to the engine. Also, have the cams or cam pulleys been changed or the block/heads been shaved.

Just some extra info: The cam position measurement is based on where the ECU calculates TDC number one to be, this is based on the ref/sync pattern which includes the ref signal, mess up the ref signal and everything down the line fails.....obviously pretty much everything calculated by the ECU is based on the crank position.

took a capture at 800, 1800 and 3000rpm no load for you.
forum wont allow .rsc2 files, so I zipped them for you.

as soon as I put anything in the cam aim table eg. 5degrees, the indicated cam position starts jumping around between about -15 and 15 degrees and gives me a error - "no sync signal".
if I put 20 degrees in the table, the engine stalls.

engine is a 2003ish EZ30, with variable cam timing and lift on the inlet cams only.
standard cams/gears etc.
it's got some block modifications, forged internals - the usual.
The heads have had heavier valve springs put in them but that's it.
Standard EZ30 cam and crank sensors etc.

It looks like mode 52 is what you will have to use which means a wiring change as well. With mode 52 everything has to be correct to make it work so you will need someone who knows what they are doing.

The mode 39 you are using now is for fixed cams so when the sync starts moving around it will cause the errors.

Where about's are you, this car sounds familiar. Are you in Brisbane?

What's the setup required to get it working Mark?

Wiring is no issue, I can change/repin to suit mode 52 in under a minute - I've tried it before (2 weeks ago) with no luck.
I presume it's a software setup issue.

feel free to send me the setup or a blank .e35 file with the trigger/mode setup and I'll copy it across to my file, make the pin changes and give it a go.
