Throttle Blip???

I have seen and heard many people do this function with drive by wire (DBW) applications but, none at least on this forum with a simple solenoid for none DBW. I have currently use a solenoid for down shift throttle blip. The only trouble is that it doesn't have enough power to blip with the engine on. The setup is quite simple, what I'm after is for a solenoid with at least 1/4 inch of travels fairly fast and with a good initial force. I hope any one has tried this kind of setup and could point in a good direction towards solenoid selection...
Thanks in advanced

Any one from Motec that has some experience with that kind of setup????

Some older cars have nice boot release solenoids, but they draw up to 15 amps!
about 20mm travel, quite strong

Good one Martin, I was thinking exactly the same thing. You will need a realy in between the solenoid and the ECU, a solid state one will react much faster than a contat type one.

Ive done it through a regular relay, the delay is roughly the same most of the time...and you want a little bit of a delay in any case. So instead of using a 70ms delay from downshift request you just enter 30ms :)

I know its not perfect but its 10x cheaper than a Solidstate relay and its 10x better than having the driver heel-and-toeing and messing up the brake pressure and then still not blipping enough! (strange thing is the driver will always say the rear just suddenly overtook him....must be a brake problem!)

I too have been thinking about this, could you use a small RC model type servo with a lever arm to blip the throttle on downshifts on a 2 or 3D table ? Obviously you would have the servo upgrade.

expensive blipper :)...and upgrade

I think itll be too weak, and slow, but im no RC specialist..maybe you know of something?

If anybody finds a nice solenoid or method post it on here...

I have used a Daewoo`s Boot release solenoid. It pulls about 15 amps for an instant, so I used a Relay

So how is this done in a DBW arrangement ?

There are tables for Up Shift DBW Position and Down Shift DBW Position in the Gear Shift function. You need to set up the Gear Shift function even though you might not want the ECU to actually do the gear shift itself.
