Downshift blip actuator

Postby thr on Thu Jun 01, 2023 4:27 pm

Hi.
Is it possible to use a 12v solenoid as blib actuator, instead of an air piston ?
And if, has anyone any experience with an Electric actuator ?
I know the Ecu can’t handle the High current. I was thinking of using a solidstate relay.

Hi Brien,

Yes, the electric actuators can be used, you may need to use an external relay to handle the current requirements.

My personal experience with them hasn't been positive, they suffer from exposure to heat, and their response time drops off when they get warm. They can also be inconsistent with the amount of blip that they give. I would prefer to run a DBW throttle rather than rely on a solenoid for the blip, as the DBW can be driven to the required opening.

Thanks for sharing, Stephen.

I will look into using a DBW throttle instead.
No need experiment.

Thanks
