How to do software update on old M800 without parallel port?

Hi,

I originally built a car in 2002 with an M800. For one reason or another, the car was then parked in a shed until recently and now everything is being rebuilt and updated.

I want to update the M800 software to the latest release, but the CAN cable I originally used had the old printer/parallel port connector.

...so I bought a Motec UTC...but I see that you shouldn't connect the UTC to old M800 software, but now that I don't have any laptops that have a parallel port, I can't update the software with my current CAN cable.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Craig

Hi,

Are you needing to retain the data on the M800? If you do not need to, then updating to the latest firmware using the UTC will work. If you need to retain the data, do you know which version of Firmware is on the M800 currently?

Thanks Stephen,
The M800 is configured and tuned for the same engine, so I hope to be able to retain the data.
Thanks for the confirming that the UTC can work straight away but with consequences for the existing data.
I don't recall updating the software after the attached datalog, so I'm pretty confident that the version would have been the latest as at 8/4/2003.
Thanks again
Craig

Would this type of adaptor allow the data to be retained? https://www.jaycar.com.au/usb-to-parall ... e/p/XC4847

Hi,

The specifications read that it should work, but without testing one I cannot confirm that it will.
