SYNC ERRORS

Hi I am a real novice at MOTEC and need a little help please. I have a MOTEC 400 running a small block chevy twin turboed drag truck. I have been running ok and stripped the engine for a rebuild. On reassembly the truck started but will only tickover not rev at all. I checked the laptop and are getting ERROR SYNC SIGNAL and ERROR NO SYNC SIGNAL. I thought the engine would not run at all with these errrors. And why wont it rev or is this another problem all together. Thanks for your help.

Hi,

When you are connected to the M400 with the laptop, the errors shown in the View window do not automatically reset/clear, you have to use the Reset Errors button to clear them. If you do this, do you get the same errors reoccurring?

Do you have a RefSync capture from before and after the rebuild? it may be that the tooth alignment has changed slightly.

Have you checked the CrIP?

Hi Thanks for your reply. I have reset the errors and they come back as soon as the truck is started. I have only the ref/sync capture from now as Ive only just learnt how to do it. The ignition system I am using is a modified distributor for cam sensor and a 4 magnet MSD crank trigger for crank. If the crank trigger is slightly off , which I checked and is the same as before, could that cause this problem? The crip I checked with a timing light and is 18 degrees which it has been since I originally built the system 4 years ago. The value in the laptop is the same.

Hi,

Can you post the RefSync Capture and the Configuration out of the M400 thanks.

Are you running 8 injectors on this SBC with the M400? This would imply you're running batch fire with the injectors paired up, which, depending upon what trigger wheel you have, may not need a sync signal to run.

With the motor idling, do the sensor values you see in ecu manager make sense? TPS moves, map sensor numbers make sense, etc etc. What does the oxygen sensor read. Also how long has it been apart, could some of the injectors be stuck or gummy?

Checked everything you said. I have one of the lambda sensors not reading. Will this be the problem? I have ordered a new one and will fit it as soon as it arrives.

Kev, can you please post the M400 configuration also. That ref sync capture is making my brain hurt, the little spike on the end of each ref pulse cannot be good. Can you also please take a picture of your trigger wheel setup. Also, if you're logging anything in the ecu please post the log file.
