Tuning Specs for Toyota 5VZ

I am in the process of wiring and programming a stroked and blown 5VZ engine and need to verify the CRIP. I have determined that it is about 507 degrees. The timing gear is a 36 tooth with two missing teeth. The cam is a 72 tooth sprocket with one tooth each revolution. If anyone has the proper settings for the cam and crank sensor I would appreciate it. It's my understanding that Toyota uses magnetic sensors for cam and crank and that they are falling signals.

I am also looking to the dwell settings for the Toyota 4.7 liter engine. I am using these integrated COPs on this engine to allow individual cylinder tuning. i am planning to start with 2ms and do not have a scope to check for current limits.

Hi Tom,
I assume this is the same engine from your email to support?

Send me the ref/sync capture when you get a chance and we can probably post all the info here on the forum for anyone else who wants to use that engine.

I take it that this engine does not have variable cams?

5VZ does not have variable cam. It is a 36-2 on the crank, and a single tooth on the cam. I do not know the CRIP, but ref/sync mode 7 should be what you want and follow the help to determine CRIP. Verify with a timing light and you should be all set!

Edit: Both sensors are mag and to the best of my knowledge will be wired from the factory as falling (you will want to verify if you are doing your own wiring/patch harness). You will also need to setup trigger/filter levels.

36-2ref
1 tooth sync
Crip 515.8
ref mag rise mode5 on m48
sync mag fall mode 5 on m48
ref/sync mode 72

i cannot verify the edges because it was a custom harness but i know it ran okay

Thanks Martin, I was close with 507 from my calculations. I'll ask Mark if the M48 settings would be the same on the M600 I'm using. We're close on the wiring. Starting from scratch is never easy and a little scary with all the money invested in the project.

Mark, are the settings Martin listed the same for the M600 I'm using? Thanks!

Mode will be 7, not 72
Do ref sync capture to determine Trigger egdes
Mode 5 means that its a low level Mag sensor, with the M600 you will be able to see the ref and sync min/max values and adjust the trigger levels acordingly.

The ref filter values should look someting like this
0 500 1000 3000 6000 10000
124 124 124 64 32 16

Verify all the settings and make sure that they work OK

The magnetic levels need to be 30% of the sensor output for the rpm. Example: If the engine is cranking at 200 RPM and the ref/sync capture shows a full wave of -2v to 2v the ECU is only looking at the "half wave voltage" (just look at the positive bit). Take 03% of 2v and you get about 0.6v.
