DC servo/stepper upgrade, bipolar or?

Noticed when you are using an idle stepper idle control function 8 on aux5-8 it is a bipolar wired (4 wires no B+) install, what about when using the servo/stepper upgrade? Is it always unipolar (6 or 8 wire with B+ to center tap) regardless of when on aux5-8 or inj5-8?
