CAN cable, use with serial to parallel adaptor?

I can't find my Motec USB data cable, but have found my CAN cable. It has the round ECU connector one end, and a parallel plug the other. I also have a USB to serial cable "dongle thing" that I know worked with my M800 and a couple of M600's. If I find / buy a serial to parallel adaptor can I use my Motec CAN cable with the USB to serial adaptor? Still looking for the USB data cable, will be darned annoyed if it's gone walkabout.... Thanks. It's so long since I used the CAN cable I can't remember how I connected to old laptops with a true serial port.

The CAN Computer cable attaches to the Parallel (printer) port on computer. There has never been a usable USB-parallel adapter, so you just need a new MoTeC UTC (USB to CAN) adapter if you can't find yours.
