Hi,
we have a project with a BMW M3 S50 B32 E36 3,2L 6 cyl. Dual VANOS and M800.
The challenge is to use the stock loom, and the car need to run if we switch to
OEM ECU,(from the race regulation). Is that possible without change anything in the harness/hardware?
The engine is stock and use all the factory sensors....
Any advice??
Thank you for all inputs.

If you can get the ECU mating connectors, you can build a little loom for igniters & lambdas. All the stock sensors should be fine. I don't know where to get those ECU headers but I've seen other people with them.

Hi Neel,
i have the ECU connector, the engine use COP with build-in ignion amplifier.
the first idea was to use the two VANOS and the two lambdas from the OEM harness.
I'm not sure about the diode in the VANOS connectors. If i need to remove them or not....

Then you should be able to do it. I heard that you can now drive the VANOS on the high-side with the M800 but I've never tried it. If you can't you can still use a pair of solid state relays so you don't have to mod the diodes.

Kind Regards,

Neel

I hope i can finish the car this week.

Yes you can high side drive these cam systems now (have been able to for a few years now). You must use outputs 5, 6, 7, and 8 though.

Thank you Mark,
In the Pinout from the ECU connector (BMW Doc) i have 2 pins for signal Lambda1 and 2, 2 pins for Gnd Lambda 1 and 2, and only one pin for Lambda Heater 1 and 2 with a dual relay, i assume i need to use the 2 aux outputs from the M800? any advice? Other strange issue, i dont see any sync sensor. Is one camshaft using the VANOS cam position to sync?

So high side will work with M800 using outputs 5-8? Installing one next week and would very much like not to use SS relays or modify wiring losing stock ecu compability.

Two months ago installed M600 and it didn't work with high side. Needed to use low side and remove diodes and get voltage to the coils. It is possible that other outputs than 5-8 were used (now they're those, but at first they might have been other, changed when trying to find the problem).
