M600 Limp Mode?

Postby 260DET on Tue Sep 27, 2011 1:58 pm

We have a problem where an engine will reach certain revs and then every time just abruptly stop making power, the power curve falls off a cliff. Data shows nothing. As part of our process of fault finding and elimination, can the ECU cause that? Get too hot or overloaded or something?

Basically no, the only time you would get the ECU shutting down due to heat is if it was above 75C internal temp and then it would shut down some outputs but not everything.

You really need to log all the erorrs etc and send it to us to have a look at.

I had a situation similar to this recently. I had a DBW pedal that would just stop communicating and the engine would go to idle. After extensive research with the data faults and codes we found that there were too many sensors and systems running on the same ground (ECU 0 Volt). Once we separated some of the grounds in the ECU the problem stopped. This was a product of too many cooks in the kitchen with regard to the wiring. Hope this helps.

We're getting something similar with our M800. Our engine will get to 5600rpm (+/- 100rpm) and just sit there. Our rpm limit is 9600, we've gone up and down on the fuelling, ignition, turned the anti-lag on and off, and had it looked at by some really knowledgable Motec guys and it's made no difference at all. Been like it all year, we're stumped.

Does yours look like this? This is after 8 seconds at wide open throttle.

I had a similar problem with a BMW 6 cilinders. Working with Methanol... We solve the "cut" problem changing injectors flow rate... When Injectors are too close to fully open , it cause like a missfire.

I hope to help !
