Overrun Fuel Cut - during race?

Postby R32TT on Mon Sep 26, 2011 12:12 am

Can anyone tell me if running Overrun fuel cut while in a circuit race is good/bad for the engine?
I can't see why you would not want it on in order to save fuel, and for a street appliation it makes sense.

I have heard/read that it is better to keep fuel going in order to help with cooling cylinder temps and valves, but am uncertain if 'fresh air' during overrun fuel cut is any better or worse..

We used it for a 12 hour endurance race on a Honda K20A and had no problems.

Would a turbo charged engine make any difference to your recommendations Mark? Thanks.

Hmmm, really depends I can't see that it would be any different. My turbo 4ag has overrun fuel cut but it only sees the ocasional track day. I am sure straight air is a lot cooler than burning an overly rich mixture.

I suppose it would be a perfect time to buy an exhaust gas temp sensor and start logging.
