Popping / backfiring when letting off the throttle

I have recently bought a Subaru Impreza STI with a fairly wild engine configuration and whenever I let off the throttle as it's slowing down it backfires a lot, which I have no problem with personally but sooner or later it's going to attract the unwanted attention of the police and that I could do without.

My guess would be to use Decel fuel cut to reduce the amount of fuel it's getting when slowing down, and was wondering if someone could give me some rough figures to start trying with? I realise that it's going to be a matter of trial and error until I find a combination of the 3 values that works best so all I really need is something to get me started so I can go from there (unless of course I'm on the wrong track entirely and should be trying something else).

Thanks heaps.

Enable the overrung fuel cut, thats what you need.

Adjust>functions>Overrun fuel cut

I had the fuel overun disabled for a while but the novelty of the sound wore off pretty quick and not to mention the looks on pedestrians faces walking past thinking what a tosser !
You could set up a multi config maps switch or maybe a digital input switch to have the opportunity to toggle between the overun fuel burble or the quiet fuel cut map on the fly to satisfy those cravings when needed :D
