Viper ignition setup and configuration.

Postby Polux RSV on Sat Apr 10, 2010 7:56 pm

I try to understand how the Viper V10 should be configured.
The 03-06 models use only 5 coils. So it is a wasted spark setup, right?

Now, with a 90° Vee and 72° crank, the TDC are 0,54,144,198,288,342,432,486,576,630. It meens cyl 1 and 6 are separated by 342° and are fired by the same ign output. Same setup for the other 4 "pairs" of cylinders.

Here I will assume 0° ignition advance. When cyl1 fires, cyl6 is at end of its exhaust phase, 342°. No problems here.
BUT, when cyl6 fires, cyl 1 is at beginning of its admission phase, at 378° relative to cyl1. Right?

Will the wasted spark on cyl1 (comming from effective spark of cyl6) create a problem with fresh air and fuel comming from inlet port?
I know it is a silly question, but I know only the electronic side of the force. :D

And last question: Is this configuration ok, using a base M800 unit WITHOUT 10cyl option, and no ignition expander. Sort of low cost solution  :
-5 pairs of injectors connected on INJ1 to INJ5.
-IGN1 to IGN5 connected to 5 ignition modules driving the 5 coils.
-Ref/sync mode 56
-10 cylinders, not the 1010 mode
-firing order 1,10,9,4,3,6,5,8,7,2
-odd fire TDC 0,54,144,198,288,342,432,486,576,630

Thanks for any help

With your wiring try this

If this is the correct firing order !
1,10,9,4,3,6,5 ,8,7,2

Ignition
1+6, 10+5, 9+8 ,4 +7, 3+2

injectors
1+10, 9+4, 3+6, 5+8, 7+2

This is the way i would wire this installation and should work .
cheers
