Firing Order

Hi

I am running the M800 with 2 x two channel Bosch ignition amplifier modules on a 2008 Yamaha R1 with standard coils.

I have been asked to pin out the coils and injectors in the order 1,2,4,3 to get the correct firing sequence - when I look at the motec ECU Manager this also has the firing sequence 1,2,4,3.

My question is, wouldn't the above be the same as pinning out the injectors and coils as 1,2,3,4 and then setting the Motec to 1,2,3,4?

Being new to this game, if someone could explain to me how the physical wiring of the ignition order relates to the software configuration I would appreciate it.

Change the Firirng order is only in the Software for a better looking. In the wirirng you must install Zylinder 1 on firing 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 4 and 4 on 3 . I hope this exampel is helpfull.

Software firing order is set so that cylinder trims work correctly and also bank trims if you use them

The ECU will always fire injectors and coils in the numerical order of the outputs.
1234,1234,1234,1234 etc...

Now wire the coil that should fire 1st to output 1
the coil that should fire 2nd to output2
and the coil that should fire 3rd to output 3 etc...

Just to clarify: Individual cylinder tuning will work without the firing order but filling in the firing order will label the cylinders correctly as per the engine, firing order will not change the way the ECU runs each cylinder. Bank trims and lambda control using 2 lambda sensors require the firing order.

With firing order set to 0. cylinder fuel trim 1=1st to fire, 2=2nd to fire, 3=3rd to fire etc...

With firing order set. Cylinder fuel trim 1=cyl1, 2=cyl2, 3=cyl3

I think that any user should not use the individual trim without firing order set. Im sure that some users will not be aware of the ECU still trimming the cylinders but only in firing order when no firing order is set. This way expensive mistakes can be avoided.

As a matter of interest, ive seen as much -7% fuel trim per cylinder on some engines (Ford Windsor V8, Edelbrock manifold, Bosch 363)...In this case the trim of the wrong cylinder could be an expensive mistake

The firing order re-labels the individual cylinder trims and tables but dosen't actually change which table controls each cylinder. In other words if you tuned without the firing order and then put the firing order in the trim will still be applied to the same cylinder. It is always a good idea to put the firing order in to avoid any confusion though.

So the 2nd table will still be the 2nd table and still be trimming the 2nd to fire cylinder, but it will just be called Cylinder 3 on a 1342 engine when you have set the firing order
