Question about compatibility, ESC etc.

Can the M series replace for example the factory management on a VE Commodore and have it talk to the existing hardware like ESC, traction control. There are times when the ESC tells the computer to shut down the the throttle opening, without that function I suppose you have an impaired setup. Curious as to the capabilities, I would have thought given there is plug and play units that it can be made to work but like to hear from the experts.

Hi Greg,

The possibility is there, and the M1 is (will be) more than capible of communicating with other devices and taking commands from them.
The problem is finding out exactly what information the ABS/ESC needs under all circumstances. It is almost impossible without inside help from Holden.
Without help, to reverse engineer the CAN communication is fairly difficult just keep things like this out of fault, let alone functioning properly...

The other option is a piggy backed system but this is becoming more of a problem with later model cars too since the ECU can detect if it has conrtol of the engine.

What plug and play units are you refering to?
