so how do you set traction control up on the motec system without wheel speedsensors then, remember not all racing allows traction control
Its a common function built into the system. You can choose from limiting the rate of change of drive speed, or you can choose to limit the rate of change of engine RPM just like the Davis system. The difference (and this is VERY important) is that you have a wide range of options on WHEN to initiate traction control, HOW to reduce power, and HOW MUCH power you want to reduce. For example you may limit it as a function of throttle position and RPM range. Or Gear Position. Or a dial on your dash. You can be creative.
And that's just the start. You can apply corrections on top of that - let's say you want the initial point of traction control intervention to be dependant on throttle position and RPM - maybe you want to limit how fast the RPM rises more at high throttle positions and in the RPM midrange. THEN you can add corrections. Do gear position, or boost, or a switch on the dash - and this is just for when the intervention begins. You can even set up timers - maybe have the TC intervention be more sensative for 1 second after each gearshift.
Notice that so far I've just mentioned WHEN it intervenes. With MOTEC, you also control HOW it intervenes and the severety of the intervention. You can have it retard timing, cut spark, retard then cut, reduce an electronic throttle.... you can define how aggressively it ramps in and out.... the possibilities are vast.
And for beginners, here' s the most important thing to remember - you can make it as easy or complex as you want. With MOTEC, its easy to start with a very simple system. Then as you learn more and gather more data, you add things in to make it your own. The MOTEC has got the best balance of flexibility and ease-of-use in the business.
