M800 on 08 Yamaha R6

Postby Julius GE on Sun Jan 03, 2010 2:06 am

We are planning to run a M800 on our project 2008 Yamaha R6 for racing.
Can anyone help us with a start up file and any idea of what kind of upgrades and extra module necessary to run the engine?

thanks in advance.

No extra modules are required, The DBW upgrade will be required though.

I think MoTeC have a start file for the R6

If you contact motec europe, they have start files to suit 06-09 yams..

related...
I have an R1 TB which is drive by cable - not DBW.
The intent is to fit this to a small 4-cyl n/a engine.

How does the idle get controlled?
There is something that appears to be a vacuum operated actuator that is located in the centre of the assembly, which I am assuming opens the throttle as the vacuum drops.

What year are the throttles from?

It's highly likely the actuator works on water temperature and is cold start idle adjust only.

The non DBW bikes didn't have a IAC type device.

Well I am not too sure which year.
I got them off a guy who tried these and a few others and he ended up using Kawasaki TBs.

I am hoping pictures will help...
The actuator is directly in the centre of this photo under the snake festival of hoses.

These are 2004/5/6 Throttles.

The actuator you are looking at has engine coolant flowing through it and simply opens up air bypasses in each throttle.
This just raises the idle when cold.
The only idle adjustment is with the knob on the end of the flexi drive that lifts the stop on the end of the actuator link.
The only idle control the ECU has is with Ignition advance.

Thanks IDP...
Looks like I have to route some water line then.

Do you have any insight into the secondary butterflies? (There is an actuator for them)
There is little likelihood of flipping the car or loosing much traction in the lower gears with a car, so I considering taking them off altogether.

In racing bikes we remove both the Idle actuator and the secondary butterflies.

Neither are of any real advantage.

IDP I am appreciating your insights.

Is there a simple way to remove the butterflies with a blanking kit, or is it just to remove the flaps, or wire them open?

I am not sure for a road going car if I would need the idle actuator, might try it without and then decide.??
