So it's actually feasible to use a strain gauge on any gearbox ?

As in even a power reduction or cut can be applied to allow flat shifting on pretty much any setup ? dog box is obvious, but would it be horrific to apply it to synchro box ?

or would that be safer left to a clutch switch ? ( or best not at all lol ) I'm mainly asking about drag use, not track.

Can't imagine it being good.... I have never tried it but wouldnt it need a loooong cut time, to allow for the synchros to do their thing?

Honestly dont know. I'm generally not a fan of flat shifting because it is very hard on the box. Just thinking out loud really.

So the strain gauge just defines the start of any cut, rather than the cut being applied for the duration of the strain level above a preset level on the stick ?
The actual cut duration is then up to the user to determine ?

Can be cut for duration of signal, cut from start of signal for a delay, or if you have a gear position sensor like in a sequential, cut until ECU sees the next gear.

It could be argued that a properly set up flat shift is easier on the whole driveline, through keeping everything loaded.

It should really only be used on a Dog change gearbox. It is not for a syncro gearbox.

With a sequential box, you can do it like this:
Pull on the stick
when the force > threshold, cut engine
When gear position sensor determines the new gear is engaged, cut is ended.

On a H pattern box
Pull or push on stick
When the force > threshold cut engine
wait a pre-determined time, then cut is ended...

Been thinking about this for a while for down shifts.

Jamie can the cut be done to a predetermined RPM so that the trans was close to matched to where it should be for the new gear?
That would require one to have a way to know what gear you are <going> in, as the new gear's RPM is unique for each gear.
I suppose the main way to tell whether it is an upshift-blip? or down shift-cut, would be brake pressure.

Hi

I have used quick shift on a 6 speed H-pattern rally car.
Have used switches and load cell on the gear leaver. Load cell works best, never fault up shift and no fault quick shifts on bumpy road.
Her is a good load cell:

It can bee wired direct too the M800.
Make gear detection on your ABS sensors.

Set up a table for cut with TP and gear.
Set gear cut time too 0 on TP from 0% too 29%
From 30% too 100% TP you use the right cut time too your gearbox.
Quick shift increase the lifetime too your dog rings!
Do you have problems with down shift, set the idle rmp higer.
