Doing a Custom Loom

Hello Everyone,

After much thought we decided to tackle the custom loom issue in-house. We believe the experience will benefit our company in the long term. Our current project is:

ECU: M800
Motor: 2UZE Tundra FI (40psi max)
Transmission: 6 Speed Manual
Chassis: Lexus SC400

We have the engine harnesses for both cars and will graft the require 2UZ wiring onto the SC400.

The logical place for us to start are with the sensors:
* 4 Bar Map Sensor (for map)
* 1 bar Map Sensor (for baro)
* Bosch Engine oil pressure sensor
* Engine oil temperature sensor
* Fuel pressure sensor
* Inlet air temperature sensor
* Lambda Sensors x2
Do we really need crank and cam sensors?

Pyros for individual cylinder measurement:
8 Thermocouple probes

Plugs:
* Bosch engine oil temperature sensor plug
* Bosch injector plugs x8
* ECU Header Pin Kit

Mounts:
Panel mount socket for UTC

Switches
* Motec 10 poisition switch (for boost adjust)
* Motec 4 position switch (for configuration switching)

If you could please provide us with motec product codes and where to purchase so we could
start as soon as possible. Also, please let us know if we are missing any sensors, plugs, mounts etc..
Also the correct wiring we should for the loom, and any other tools needed for the project i.e. crimpers,
extraction tool etc..

We've never done a custom loom before, but believe the first few times will be short time pain for
long time gain.

I am no help on the stuff you need to order, but you might want to go through a dealer on that.

You will need some spools of various colour wire and a crimper.
Probably Tezval 20 or 22Ga...
I use 22 Ga for most things "sensor". You might need some heavier stuff for injectors.

Do you need Crank and Cam sensors?......only if you want the engine to actually run......if it is something shiney to sit in a lounge room for people to look at then no. :)

But seriously.....the crank sensor gives the ECU a crank position and speed, the cam sensor is use to give you a engine cycle reference point (is it on exhaust or compression stroke). You cannot do sequential injection/ignition without both.

Depending on where you are in (on) the world, it might make more sense to start with a local dealer until you run into issues that they do not know.

Not sure how many EGT pryometers you can run and how, but I am interested in how to do that myself.

We sell our products through a network of dealers around the world. We have a catalogue you can download to give you part numbers but our dealers will have this information for you so it will be best to contact one of them directly.

Yes, the part numbers can vary depending where you are.

Before you go and buy alot of material to make your own loom (Which I did at first and spent a good thousand dollars just on wire), call Chris Miller at Motec. I bought a nice harness directly from motec with the best of the best. It was not as expensive as I thought it would be and the work was very good. Best of all, when I call tech support now, and they ask who did the wiring harness, its a non issue when I have tech questions.
