M800 CAN bus protocol

Postby GMS Racing on Sun Jan 03, 2010 7:08 am

Hi,

I have an M800 in my MINI JCW and want to connect it to a Race Technology (RT) data logger and display that I have. The RT kit can accept a CAN input and is configurable, so I need to know the details of the Motec CAN bus interface.

The RT program is fully configurable and I require the following information.

Device name e.g. RPM
CAN ID length - 11 or 29 bits
CAN ID
Filter location - None, 1 to Byte 8
Filter Value
Start bit - 0 to 63
Length bits - 1 to 32
Value type - Signed /Unsigned / Float (single)
Byte order - Intel Standard / Interl Seg / Motorola Forw LSB / Motorola Forw MSB / Motorola Seq / Motorola backward
Scale factor
Offset
Exponent (for time only)

Also, I need to know the CAN baud rate - 1Mbit / 500Kbit / 250Kbit / etc.

GMS Racing

did you check the race technology Knowledge base?

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/ind ... /MotecM800

that answers your question

what htis also means is that RACE TECHNOLOGIES recommends you use RS232 instead of CANbus.

figgie,

Thanks for your reply, yes I have checked the RT knowledge base but I want to get the CAN bus option working as it opens up a lot more projects for me in the future.
