CANBUS Communication with Aim PDM32 - MoteC M800

Postby steven lee on Wed Apr 30, 2025 10:27 am

hello,

We are currently using the MOTEC M800 and are planning to connect it via CAN communication with AIM’s PDM32 system.

AIM provides a dedicated CAN protocol for MOTEC, so we believe that there should be no issues with the connection as long as the address settings for MOTEC are properly configured.

We would like to know which CAN 0 address and data values we need to use on the MOTEC side to successfully link it with the AIM PDM32.

Please let us know if there would be any issues using CAN 0 address 1520, as is done with the AIM ADL.

Thanks for the reply.

But I’ve been struggling to establish communication between our MoTeC M800 (firmware 3.54E) and AiM PDM32 via CAN even when i tried all of MoteC manual from Aim PDM32 Series. Despite following all official procedures and validating signal integrity, the PDM32 still receives no data from the ECU.

Here is a full list of what we’ve tried so far:
- CAN Data: 1
- CAN Address: 1520
- Baudrate: 1Mbit

- Oscilloscope shows valid differential signal on CAN_H and CAN_L
- Signal confirms MoTeC is actively transmitting
- Swapping CAN_H and CAN_L → no improvement
- PDM32 shows defined channels (RPM, TPS, etc.), but displays only % with no data

- ECU Stream enabled on CAN 0
- Protocol set to M8XX-M600-M400-1M_v3, but still none of signal
- Also tested with legacy protocol M8XX-M600-M400-1M – no change

for the hardware,
Termination was verified by measuring ~60Ω across CAN_H and CAN_L, confirming that both 120Ω resistors were in place at each end of the bus.

I still don't understand what's the main problem...

Just solved! We just misunderstood number of CAN signal, our seller sent wrong guide for installation.
We just installed ECU stream signals at CAN0.... it supposed to be at CAN1 HL.

Thanks for reply!
