Hi Guys,
I’m a newcomer in the Motec world.
It’s also the first time I’m installing a standalone ECU…
I'm French (sorry for that) and my car is an old Porsche 993 turbo converted to ‘GT’ (road legal version of the GT2)
She has a few mods: twin GT28RS turbo, bigger cams, and a reprogrammed genuine ECU (called DME in the Porsche world)
I bought the car this way and I’m not happy with the mapping. The LTFT goes down until ECL.. I checked all in the engine and the only conclusion I have is improper mapping.
To be clear with this generation of DME (only produced 1 year) the memory was not flashable so a baby board had to be installed.
The previous owner sent the car to a tuner in Belgium and who asked another company to do this job. Then he made data acquisition on his dyno, send the values to the company who was sending an update, and repeat. The whole process (along with modifying the bodywork and all took a more than a year.
When this was done, 2 big air to water intercoolers where fitted. Once the owner got the car back he thought it was too heavy and fit the genuine air/air intercooler back (this is certainly contributing to my actual problems)
When I acquired the car I thought it was an old OBI setup so I did not check anything on this side… Only to discover a month later that it was an OBII and the ECL bulb was gone.. (how convenient was that..)
I fixed it along a few other things and then I got that LTFT issue after 50-100 miles of driving. The values are quite symmetrical on both banks (the exhausts are fully separated) so I don’t think of injector leaks (I took the rails off to check that too anyway)
The fuel pressure has been increased by about 1b retaining the genuine injectors so I was worry about that..
I check all sensors including the MAF (that I replaced by safety), also for any air leaks and all seems fine.
So I bought a M600 in order to put everything in the right way. (or at least a way that I’m happy with)
Since it’s a 2wd I’m also very interested to use the traction control feature! (the car produces about 550 bhp and 570 N.m of torque..) and even with Cup 2 tires it can be rock & roll!
Mapping will be done on a proper dyno by a professional but he’s not used to Motec systems so I’m trying to prepare the setup as much as possible. (He already mapped cars with Motec but never installed one from scratch)
The idea is to retain most of the genuine sensors and some peripherals with the exception of the fuel injectors, the phase sensor, the coils and the lambda sensors.
I’ll ditch the distributor for a triple coil pack from a VR6 engine and install a phase sensor on a cam.
A flex fuel sensor is going to be fitted as well and I’d like to implement a knock detection feature.
Sooo where you could help is:
The loom will be made in the upcoming weeks. I gathered as much information I could from the makers and the workshop manual but of course you can’t get everything!
The genuine ISCV is a Bosch 0 280 140 543
I configured the 2 required outputs and I found a schematic on the Motec library for a similar valve.
But the parameters were for a M4 ECU. With the M600 it’s a different setup so if someone has already used that valve and would like to share it would be greatly appreciated.
It’s the same ISCV on all 993s regardless of the engine. (NA or not)
I know I’ll have to bypass the relay 63 for the starter, that should be fine.
Is there anything to consider?
I’m aware that on the DME, the TPS signal is converted to a PWM signal sent to the ABS module for a feature called ABD (to apply brake on spinning rear wheel) since I fitted a proper ATB I guess I’ll let go this and remove the default light from the ABD on the dash (the ABS is not impacted as far as I read)
The M600 cannot use the spare ignition outputs and I used all 8 outputs available but I would have been interested to get one more.
(I wasn’t expecting to use 2 outputs for the ISCV nor for the lambda, otherwise I would have bought an M800.. but it’s too late now)
The only way I can think of would be to use the 2 lambda heating controls on one output, would that be ok?
At the moment I use the 6 inj outputs (indeed), the 8th (A30) for the knock window.
And Aux 1 to 8 as follow: Boost valve, Fuel pump, Warning light, Tach, Idle stepper, Idle slave, Lamdba1 heating, Lamdba2 heating
If you have any comments suggestions, you’ll be welcome
